7.6.3. Pressure Settings

The Ensign Bed Sensor Pad (BSP) pad uses the pressure value to distinguish whether a Client is on the bed or not. The pressure value for an unoccupied bed is 1, however, if the mattress differs in design, the pressure value may be higher for an unoccupied bed.
If the actual pressure value is lower than the pressure setting, the pad will consider the bed to be unoccupied and therefore will show the Out of Bed symbol.
If the actual pressure value is higher than or equal to the setting pressure value, the pad will consider the bed to be occupied.
The default pressure setting is 12, which is a suggested value, a user can change it to higher or lower depending on the circumstances.
Caution should be taken that the pressure setting is not set too high or too low.
A pressure setting that has been set too high can cause the pad to be not sensitive enough and therefore a lightweight person may be ignored by the pad.
The pressure setting that is too low can cause the pad to be over sensitive and the pad may think the bed is occupied when it is not.
